Dermal Fillers

(Soft Tissue Filler)

Dermal fillers, also known as soft tissue fillers, lip and facial fillers, or wrinkle fillers, are injectable substances used to enhance facial contours, smooth lines, and restore lost volume. These gel-like substances are injected beneath the skin to create a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance. The procedure is a popular non-surgical cosmetic option for those seeking to address the signs of aging, such as fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss, without the need for invasive surgery.

Facial Applications

Dermal fillers are versatile and can be used in various areas of the face and body to achieve desired cosmetic outcomes:

  • Smooth Under-Eye Circles: Fillers can be used to reduce the appearance of dark circles or hollowness under the eyes, giving a more rested and youthful look.

  • Lift Cheekbones: By adding volume to the cheeks, fillers can lift and define the cheekbones, enhancing facial contours and restoring a more youthful profile.

  • Volumize Lips: Fillers are commonly used to enhance lip volume, shape, and definition, creating fuller and more symmetrical lips.

  • Smooth Lip Lines and Nasolabial Folds: Fillers can effectively reduce the appearance of vertical lip lines (often referred to as smoker's lines) and soften nasolabial folds, the lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth.

Types of Fillers

There are several types of dermal fillers available, each designed to address specific cosmetic concerns. The most common include:

  • Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers: These fillers, such as Juvederm and Restylane, are made from a substance naturally found in the body. HA fillers are popular for their ability to add volume and hydration to the skin. The effects typically last 6 to 18 months.

  • Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) Fillers: Radiesse is an example of a CaHA filler, which is used to treat deeper wrinkles and folds. This type of filler provides longer-lasting results, usually around 12 to 18 months.

  • Poly-L-lactic Acid Fillers: Sculptra is a filler that stimulates collagen production over time, gradually improving volume and skin texture. The results can last over two years.

  • Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) Fillers: Bellafill is a PMMA filler that provides a more permanent solution for wrinkles and skin folds. PMMA fillers contain tiny beads that remain under the skin to provide long-lasting support.
